35 itemsWelcome to John Carter Brown Library - Mexico Incunables Collection
The JCB’s collection of Mexican incunabula is world renowned. In a recent
census of the first books to come off the Mexican presses, between 1539
and 1600, Rosa María Fernánez de Zamora of the National Autonomous
University of Mexico found that the John Carter Brown Library holds more
than any other library in the world. About half of these may also be found
in the JCB’s collection on indigenous languages. The vast majority of
these items were purchased from Mexican collector Nicolás León in 1896.
